NOAA Multi-Purpose Building

Location:

Kihei, Hawaii

Designed for a capacity of up to 100 people, the new 6,350 square foot NOAA Multi-Purpose Facility was constructed to alleviate space deficiencies at the existing facility as well as allow the Sanctuary to expand various functions and activities. The building is meant to reflect the vernacular “Hawaiian” or “Kamaaina” style of architecture. Building features that reflect the style are the sloping pitched roof over, utilizing a double pitch and is taller than the surrounding roofs to accentuate its importance as well as to break up the massing of the surrounding structures. A trellis is provided over the main stair and ramp entrance to call attention to the building entrance.
